Today, we interviewed a student who has financial problem. She was hardly striving to secure her tuition by her self. she had a lots of struggles for her family’s financial problems. Let’s dive in to her life and know a reality of university students in the Philipines!

Who are you?

I am AC, a 20-year-old university student in the Philippines. I was born and raised in Cebu City and migrated here, Cagayan De Oro in 2014. I’m currently studying business to help my parents expand their business in the future.

“common business in the Philippines”

Let me introduce my family. I have a lot of siblings.

My parents are the caretakers of the business. About my family,

I have 6 siblings and I’m a 3rd child.

1st→already working as a teacher

2nd→studying in Cebu

4th→12th grade. also learning business at Capital University

5th→grade 10th

6th→grade 9th

So even though my parents are caretakers of a company, it is financially hard when 5 children are commuting to school.

“Birth Rate and Population in the Philippines”

The birth rate in the Philippines is currently 2.5 children per woman, down from 3.5 children per woman in the past. The birth rate is slightly declining due to three main reasons:

1. The spread of family planning programs

The government is promoting family planning programs, leading to a greater emphasis on contraception.

2. Women’s participation in society

As the education level of women has improved, many now prioritize their careers over marriage.

3. Urbanization

The cost of living and childcare is higher in urban areas. As a result, urbanization is making it more difficult for families in cities to raise children.

However, despite the declining birth rate, the average age in the Philippines is 25, and the younger generation is significantly larger compared to other countries.

3 big problems that she has now

1.financial problem

A: In a family, 5 children are going to school. So even going to my school is financially hard. So right now I’m taking a working scholarship from my University.

“Children who cannot go to the school in the Philippines”

MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 11 million children and young Filipinos are not attending formal school, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Because 5 children in my family is going to school, and 2 of them are going to a private school, taking scholarship to study in my university is necessary for me. I am takin a working scholarship. To get this scholarship, I have to keep working every day rather than focusing solely on maintaining a very high score. I’m working at another school as an assistant in a class.

My typical day→7:00 AM to 3:00 PM studying at the university, and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM working as a classroom assistant.

But I think I am very fulfilled because there are a lot of children who cannot even commute to school here in the Philippines, especially when their family has a lot of children.

2→hard for time management

As I mentioned, I need to balance my studies and work. Also, since I have many family members, I have responsibilities at home, such as cooking, washing, and so on.

3→balance between one student and one worker

I’m a student at Capitol University, but at the other school, I’m a classroom worker. So, finding the balance inside me and switching my mindset is always difficult. Of course, as a student, I want to have fun and mischief, but sometimes, I need to stop those desires for my work.

What is you dream?

I have three dreams now

1→be a flight attendant

I didn’t have enough finances to enroll in a university that offers a flight attendant course, but recently I found out that i can be a flight attendant without any specific graduate so I’m again dreaming of being a flight attendant

2→establish my own business

3→build a house in Cebu

I really want to go back to my hometown. There are a bunch of nice places in Cebu.

“Picture of places where AC preferred to go”

What is your favourite word?

The path to success is founded on wisdom and hope that is marked by perseverance.
